Tests & Alternatives
Why Standardized Tests Matter — But Not Always
For many years, exams like GRE, GMAT, IELTS, and TOEFL were seen as mandatory for studying abroad.
Today, things are changing — and fast.
Depending on your program, your background, and your university choice, you might be able to skip some tests or use alternatives.
Understanding when you need a test (and when you don’t) can save you time, money, and unnecessary stress.
Major Tests You Might Encounter
- TOEFL / IELTS / Duolingo: English language proficiency for all non-native speakers
- GRE (Graduate Record Exam): Graduate admission (especially STEM, Business, Engineering)
- GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test): MBA and business-related master’s programs
